In July, the most prestigious sailing race will start on the shores of San Francisco. Beginning with the Luis Vuitton Cup, three teams will race each other in high performance multi-hull boats, which literally fly through the air.

We love the America´s Cup and especially Emirates Team New Zealand for its adventurous spirit and performance. Here are some reasons why:

Love San Francisco

The Golden Gate Bridge, Chinatown, Union Square, the famous cable cars…even the weather! We love San Francisco, the cosmopolitan host city of the 34th edition of The America´s Cup.

Love the Team

Emirates Team New Zealand is one of the world´s greatest professional sailing teams. Run by sailing legend Grant Dalton, CEO, the team is made up of some of the best sportsmen in sailing. In fact, the entire team on and off shore are a bunch of very cool lifelovers. They work hard, play hard and live life with passion.

Love the shoes

The Sailing Collection. This is a collection of sailing inspired footwear created by Camper, especially for Emirates Team New Zealand. Designed with the team in mind, there are a number of different options including MATCH, a limited edition dockside casual shoe combining the look of a retro sneaker with some of the features of a sailing shoe.

Offshore Emirates Team New Zealand will themselves be wearing some special shoes designed by us. CHALLENGER is a highly-technical shoe developed especially for them and was tested under extreme sailing conditions for performance on the AC72. But we´ll tell you more about this very soon…

Love Design

The America´s Cup today stands for state of the art technology and ultimate performance. These boats were designed to fly, which means they Hydrofoil and can reach speeds of up to 44 knots, which is flying on the water around 81km per hour.

We will be featuring more about Camper´s sponsorship of Emirates Team New Zealand and the America´s Cup. However, to keep up to date with all the race news, follow us on Facebook.

This season we have joined up with Japanese designer Dai Fujiwara, to create a really special selection of bags. Dai Fujiwara graduated in the art of weaving and dyeing from the Tama Art University and then went on to become creative director of Issey Miyake until 2011. His expertise and desire for experimentation has created a totally unique collection of bags for Camper.

Fujiwara’s work is always conceptually strong and creates a solid contrast between tradition and technology.

For Dai the most important aspect, when beginning a concept, is to be able to feel and experience nature. It is from here that, the designer explains, he is able to express himself in a fun and playful way.

The new bags collection has been named “Mori”, which means Forest in Japanese, and symbolises the materials used to produce these beautiful accessories. The range has been created using a specially constructed knitted fabric made from paper – a process which took years to develop. Using paper, Dai´s idea was to connect the new collection back to its original environment and to highlight to society that we can always consider recycling as a concept.

Made in Japan, the bags are defined by their texture and are extremely tactile. Highly durable, yet soft, the special knitted texture is commonly used for clothing but seldom used to make accessories. Each product in the collection has its own unique personality due to its composition using finely woven threads of paper.

For Dai the most important aspect, when beginning a concept, is to be able to feel and experience nature.

Fujiwara’s work is always conceptually strong and creates a solid contrast between tradition and technology. This style is clearly evident in this first collaboration with Camper.

The Mori collection includes the following models: a small messenger bag, large messenger bag, backpack, tote, wallet and large wallet.

Jasper Morrison is a prestigious product and industrial designer who has been a press regular since designing the Thinking Man’s Chair for Capellini back in 1988. Success came soon after he opened his studio in the British capital after passing through art schools in both London and Berlin.

I am fascinated by how a pair of shoes can define the wearer.

Jasper’s search for everyday beauty drew him to Camper where, three seasons ago, he was introduced to the history of Camper and was instantly inspired by the story of our first shoe, the Camaleon with its practical earthy roots. This then became the inspiration for his shoe creations with us.

We love the way in which Jasper has always succeeded in maintaining a simple and functional approach to design, seeking out the essential in everything. So, in turn, we asked a few essential questions revealing more about the designer and his approach to life

Who is your design inspiration and why?

There are many! First, it was an exhibition of Eileen Gary which made me decide to be a designer, then Jean Prouvé, Sori Yanagi, Achile Castiglione, Magistretti, Enzo Mari, Dieter Rams…..

What does good design mean to you?

It means good for everyday use.

Every design project is different, there are no two alike, even if it’s the same type of thing.

When thinking about footwear designs, what aspects are most important to you?

I am fascinated by how a pair of shoes can define the wearer. They seem to have the ability to express the character of the wearer.

Do you find Mallorca an inspirational place for design and why?

I find it an inspirational place to not design! I love the mountains, the sea, the food and the people.

You work in very different projects from furniture to shoes. Does the kind of product change your working method?

Not so much, but every design project is different, there are no two alike, even if it’s the same type of thing.

If Camper was a piece of furniture what would it be?

A chair and a table of course. The most essential pieces.

We love the way in which Jasper has always succeeded in maintaining a simple and functional approach to design

Jasper Morrison currently lives between Paris and Tokyo, where he works as a consultant for Muji together with Konstantin Grcic and Naoto Fukasawa, two fellow designers with much in common.

They say that New York is the city that never sleeps and we want to see if that’s true. Are you up for a weekend of non-stop fun?

The best way to start the day is with a good breakfast. That’s why we recommend Daniel’s Bagel in midtown Manhattan, where you can try some of the best bagels in the city.

Now that you’re full of energy, we’re ready to hit the Big Apple. And since it’s important to wear the right footwear while walking, we suggest you visit the Camper Store on Fifth Avenue designed by Nendo so that you can choose a pair that suits you.

We’ll head towards to the financial district and have dinner on the banks of the river Hudson

Wandering the length of Fifth Avenue can be tiring so we’ll relax with a good coffee and a muffin while we browse the shelves of McNally Jackson, one of Manhattan’s best book shops. While we’re in Soho we’ll do some shopping in the neighbourhood boutiques and stop at House of Shoes, the Camper store designed by Shigeru Ban, to get our hands on a pair of shoes more suitable for New York nightlife.

Then we’ll head towards to the financial district and have dinner on the banks of the river Hudson, somewhere with incredible views of the downtown skyscrapers, like the Beekman Beer Garden Beach Club. And maybe we can end the night on the terrace of 230 Fifth Avenue, where we’ll take in the view of the Manhattan skyline while we sip Cosmopolitans.

We recommend Daniel’s Bagel in midtown Manhattan, where you can try some of the best bagels in the city.

Now the weekend will be drawing to a close and if you want to feel like a real New Yorker then all you have have to do is spend Sunday in Williamsburg, New York’s famous hipster neighbourhood. Here you can grab a tasty brunch at Egg and have a look around the Artists & Fleas Market, one of New York’s best vintage flea markets.

Camper has opened its first store in Santander, located at 8 Calle Juan Herrera, in one of the city’s most commercial areas.

The store’s design is part of the Camper Together project. This is a collaborative project in which the best international architects and designers create Camper stores that reflect their own vision of the brand.

The designs of Tomás Alonso reflect his two guiding principles: a sparse use of materials and an understanding of our relationship with objects.

In this case, Tomás Alonso is responsible for the design of the store. He also designed the Camper stores in Genoa, London, Glasgow and Thessaloniki.

Tomás Alonso was born in Vigo in 1974. He left Vigo at the age of 19 and moved to the United States to study industrial design, while working for an Italian company that designed tyres for vehicles. He lived in Italy, Australia and finally settled down in London where he studied a Masters degree at the Royal College of Art, graduating in 2006.

He founded OKAYstudio with five friends from university. The popularity and quality of his work has generated widespread media coverage in specialist design magazines like Wallpaper and World of Interiors.

Salone di Mobile is a furniture fair held annually in Milan. It’s the largest trade fair of its kind and showcases the latest in furniture and design inspiration from all over the world.

“exploring continuity from one idea to the next”

For this seasons Il Salone del Mobile, Camper created a Design Tour with Doshi Levien across three different locations in Milan; the Camper Montenapoleone store, 10 Corso Como and Galleria Rossana Orlandi.

All three installations reflected the design inspiration of our collaboration with British designers Doshi Levien, which includes projects to develop both stores and footwear.

The principal creative project at Camper´s store, located in Via Montenapoleone, was designed using the concept “exploring continuity from one idea to the next” and includes all different objects that were used to inspire the development of this season’s shoe collection.

Camper created a Design Tour with Doshi Levien across three different locations in Milan

During the fair hundreds of people came to see the work including, press, designers and customers. But if you weren’t there, don’t worry as this special installation will be in place until Summer so you still have time to visit.
For those who can’t travel to Milan, you can see how the project was set up or enjoy a little more about our collaboration here.

This week, we showcase the work of design duo Doshi Levien, the british design couple who have developed a special installation for Camper during Il Salone del Mobile in Milan (April 6-12). Having featured their store concept earlier in the year, we interview Nipa Doshi about her inspirations and shoe desires.

Who is your design inspiration and why?

My grandfather was an aesthete and had an exquisite Art Deco apartment in Mumbai full of beautiful paintings and furniture. He was immaculately dressed and always wore beautifully tailored traditional khadi fabrics with bespoke crafted shoes. He unknowingly taught me to care about the simplest of rituals and instilled in me the notion that design was as much about how you did things.

What does good design mean to you?

We wouldn’t use the word ‘good’ to describe something that blows us away and makes us intensely jealous of not being its creators!

You work in very different projects from furniture to kitchen tools or from installations to shoes. Does the kind of product change your working method?

We think of every new project as an opportunity to enter a new world of materials, skills and expertise. Although there is always a steep learning curve when we design something for the first time, we always start with a dream of what we would love to do. For example when we were designing the Twins collection for Camper, the ideas came from looking at art of the International avant garde, Indian sweets covered with silver foil, school notebooks and uniforms and summer holidays. Every project we do feeds into the next.

Camper embraces plurality and has the confidence to absorb different design approaches.

The new objects we have created for Camper’s Montenapoleone shop started from the idea that ‘One thing leads to another ‘. We did not want to create an installation but instead a new furniture collection that takes the language of the shoes forward.

With our collection for Camper, we focused on shoes and sandals that were easy to wear everyday but sexy and glamorous too. We imagined the shoes and sandals to be like a uniform that could be worn throughout the season. I particulary love the shoes designed by Bernhard Willhelm.

What do you love about Camper?

Camper embraces plurality and has the confidence to absorb different design approaches. We were happy that after designing their shops we were asked to design a collection of shoes.

How would you combine the shoes you designed for Camper? What kind of person do you think would wear them? Since we’ve had the pleasure of testing our shoe prototypes, I wore the Holly sandal throughout my summer holidays in India. The sandal is very minimal and revealing, like a bikini for the well pedicured foot. It looks good with a deep-coloured nail polish and the metallic leather adds a jewel like quality to a simple summer dress or shorts.

We think of every new project as an opportunity to enter a new world of materials, skills and expertise

The Damas on the other hand is more formal and perfect to wear to work bringing a combination of glamour and utility.

For men the Woody shoe in black printed suede can be worn without socks and the low cut of the shoe shows off the ankle beautifully. The men’s model looks fetching with rolled up or tapered skinny trousers.

If you want to get to know Milan and discover its little secrets, it’s best to wander around on foot. Care to join us?

Our first stop is Bianco Latte, where a cappuccino and a selection of home-made croissants, muffins and cookies will help us start the day with a burst of energy. Then we propose a walk through 10 Corso Como, a gallery that brings together art, design and gastronomy. Hiding behind a garage door you’ll find an exclusive space with brands like Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino, Balenciaga and Givenchy. Upstairs there’s a beautiful bookshop dedicated to fashion and photography.

Following the theme of exclusivity, we will then make our way to the Quadrilatero d’Oro. Clustered together in just six streets we will find some of the luxury gems of the fashion industry: Chanel, Valentino, Jimmy Choo and Armani. And since you’re already here, why not visit our Camper Store in vía Monte Napoleone, where you’ll find the perfect footwear to continue your walk through the best areas of Milan.

Hiding behind a garage door you’ll find an exclusive space with brands like Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino, Balenciaga and Givenchy

If you decide to visit the fashion capital during the month of April, don’t miss out on the Design Tour, created by Camper in collaboration with British designers from Doshi Levien at the Il Salone Mobile exhibition. We´re showcasing our design, art and fashion concept at exhibitions and special corner concessions at three key venues in Milan: the vintage furniture store selling limited editions, Rossana Orlandi Gallery, and the aforementioned 10 Corso Como and Camper Store in vía Montenapoleone.

If you’re a fan of antiques and interior design stores, you’ll love our next stop: the bohemian neighbourhood of Brera. Stores like Il Cirmolo or the Robertaebasta gallery are worth popping into during your stroll through Milan’s answer to Soho. And if you fancy a little aperitif, visit Obikà or Sans Égal.

To finish off, there’s nothing better than relaxing in front of a beautiful view of Milan’s Cathedral, Il Duomo. You can chose between the Aperol terrace or Il Bar, located on the terrace of the La Rinascente shopping gallery. And if you prefer to admire the beauty of the Cathedral from below, why not enjoy a typical Milanese panzerotti from Luini at the same time.

And since you’re already here, why not visit our Camper Store in vía Monte Napoleone

The idea for this new Camper store, which incorporates those miraculous principles of nature, is derived from the installation I presented in New York in 2007, where approximately 30,000 sheets of tissues covered the entire space to evoke a snowscape. Here, the red blossoms, which emphasise the corporate colour of the brand, are in full bloom in the store.

The outcome is a meticulous creation in artificial suede fabric, in which I sought to use a wide variety of natural red tones.

The principle of Together stores is to have each different creator use his own methods to offer Camper new values. As a result, I thought about creating a new value by embracing its brand identity and the originality of my design. The outcome is a meticulous creation in artificial suede fabric, in which I sought to use a wide variety of natural red tones. The bunch of petals on each flower, with their different appearances, creates an expression of constant change in the store, which boasts the beauty and grandeur of the principles of nature.” By Tokujin Yoshioka

Here in Mallorca, our Brothers footwear line is considered something of a classic, and much loved by us all. Sitting alongside Peu, Wabi, Twins and, of course Pelotas, it is a family of shoes that represents more than just the style itself.

Back in 1993, when the line was launched, Camper was walking through Spain and beginning to spread its roots across Europe. With new stores opening in prestigious locations in Paris and London, the brand was also spreading through Asia.

It was in Japan that the style really captured people’s inspiration. With its unique silhouette including a thick but lightweight outsole, the style really reflected the trend at that time and quickly became a success.

As the style became popular, so we developed different styles, playing with materials, the upper and the sole. We also developed a special edition with designer Hella Jongerius. Here are some of the recent clippings of Brothers and you can also see a clip back from L’Officiel with Helena Christensen wearing them. We love the juxtaposition of the styling.

So this season, to celebrate the 20th Anniversary, we´ve worked to bring back this Camper Original for our Spring/Summer collection.

In addition to its form, there are three elements that make our Brothers unique. Firstly, the line has a special raised front so that they are comfortable from day one.We call this the Take Off System. It’s a genetic modification created by our design team who, in order to make a truly comfortable style, copied the natural curve of a shoe that had been worn for a while.

Secondly, the Brothers’ sole, with volume or without, draws on the spirit of cycling. This shoe should hit the ground as smoothly as the tyre on a bike. Finally, our Brother´s line should always be as light as possible.

Take a look at the options below and you´ll see a range full of colour. Whether you want something with volume, such as our 3.5cm high BICI, or a lightweight summer style we hope that you find an option and colour that you´ll love as much as we do.
